Something Amazing!

So many amazing things have happened over the past few months, but one that really made me jump for joy was “My Big Trash Boy”. Yup you read that right! Sometimes i forget that Cire is so intelligent, I forget that he sees everything and though he doesn’t talk I have to keep in mind that he knows more than he wants us to think.

So what was amazing, well here it is.

It was a Monday morning so it was trash day. Cire was in the kitchen with me watching me do my regular routine of taking the trash out of the trashcan, tying the top of the bag and then I usually just put the bag at the kitchen door until I am ready to leave. For some reason after I tied the bag I handed it to Cire and said take this, well……..to my amazement my child grabbed the bag and headed for the door. I followed him, but kept a distance so i could see what he was going to do with the bag, well to my amazement he walked out the door and headed out the yard and to the trash containers at the road side where the neighborhood drops the weekly trash. I was shocked, amazed and filled with such proudness, I know it was JUST TAKING OUT THE TRASH, but for me it was more than that! You see Cire has never taken out the trash before, he has watched me hundreds of times drag the trash to the roadside, but I didn’t think ever to ask him to do it. For me to watch him carry that bag out like he had been doing it for YEARS and then put the trash down (NOT DROP IT DOWN), but rest it down with a purpose, like this is where this goes, swelled my heart with proudness.

Cire you ROCK, and yes now you will have to take the trash out from now on, but I will not look at it as just carrying trash but opening a door to you becoming an independent man!

Next I’ll be registering you for College (IT COULD HAPPEN!). The sky’s the limit! You are so AMAZING!

Thanks for this encouragement Thea. I also felt proud of Cire when I read this. I get so excited when I hear or read what the children with Autism accomplish. This made my day.

Thank you for your blog Weez! I am so proud of Cire and all of his accomplishments he has made in his life thus far. I appreciate the reminder that autistic and special needs persons do amazing things all the time, I just have to remember to “see” them.

      Hey Tonz,
I feel exactly where your coming from. Alot of times I do stuff for Cire because I’m in a hurry and its so much easier to do it myself so I can speed up the process, but in doing that I am missing the opprotunity to see what he knows and to find out what he can do on his own. As he becomes older I have stepped back and pushed that independance, I want him to be his own man and I see the potential he has and want to give him the opportunity to show the world how smart he really is.

Chris we miss you so much! Girl I wish I could call Cire a “Little Fellow” but truth be told he is the size of a linebacker! Go have a look at the Tomorrow’s Voices facebook page to check out pictures of Cire and all the other children at our Centre, or you can go to the Tomorrow’s Voices web site at http://www.tomorrowsvoices.bm and there are older pictures of him.

Can’t wait to keep you updated cause I tell you this child is really FUNNY? Love you Thee.

Thea, I see that Ciré is still the mischievous young man I knew. I’ve got such fond memories of him, and I can see him taking out the trash all right! I’m sure it doesn’t surprise anyone who knows him when he does some of his spontaneous things, like getting into someone else’s cake, grabbing some hidden popcorn, or pushing you away so that he can see the TV better. I do miss him. I’ve seen from some pictures that he’s grown so much. But the glint in his eye is still the same. I’m sorry that he seemed to have some problems being accepted at school. I’m sure it’s not his peers, but it’s the adults who need to be educated. Great blog, Thea! Keep it going and I hope to see both of you again soon. We’re doing well here. I’m teaching at the college here (teaching in the developmental disabilities program) and I am constantly using my experiences at the Centre as examples of how strong families can achieve the impossible. Hugs and kisses to Ciré!

Maurice its so great to hear from you and Becky. Yes, Cire is still CIRE! The spark in his eyes and the grin of mischief are still there and he is still pushing people out of the way of the TV so he can have the front position! School was very challenging and it had nothing to do with his peers, they accepted him for who he was. Its so strange how adults want to teach children to respect their peers and to always help people, but they themselves don’t always follow that example. But i know that the decisions Paul and I make for Cire will provide him with a foundation to take him into the future. Its great that your teaching, I know that your making a difference in your field, you always had that special something and we so appreciated it. Hope to see you and Becky soon.

Thea and Cire, you are both truly amazing. You inspire me every day. While we never stop to think of what we consider the “little things”, it’s the smallest accomplishments we should appreciate the most. One person’s “trash” for all of us to treasure. Keep up the great work, Thee. Cire, keep taking out the trash. I always look forward to the next update.

Thanks Sis, we miss you, and Cire has big kisses for you when you get back to Bermie. Take care of yourself in Japan and make sure nobody puts anything in your trash that you don’t know where to recycle! LOL!

While that is something small to others, this is something big for us and huge for Cire! yes, he is on his way to independence and yes, college is a great possibility and why not he is a sponge just soaking things up. I am so proud of you as a om and person. I am also so proud of Cire because he surprises me more and more by the things he achieves. Keep it up because both of yours and his and the families hard work is shining through babes. I loves you guys and miss you sooooooo much!!!!!!!
